Microphone Levels Reset Themselves

I know a lot of people have troubble with their mics and Vista, but I haven't
seen quite this one. If it's already been asked/anwsered/delt with, if
someone could point me to the right place? I don't want to be a bother, but
I have to do a lot of recording, and this is becomeing a major issue.

I'm on a brand new HP dv6000, with a built in Microphone. I know how to go
into the controle panel and change the settings on the mic, to up them to
100, but everytime I do, as soon as click Okay, they all reset themselves
back down to 49.

It's driving me absolutly nuts, everything I record is comeing out at a
whisper, no matter how close to my mic I lean forword. Has anyone else had
to deal with this? Or know how to fix it, so the levels stay where I
put them?

What is the audio adapter in your computer?

Have you downloaded and installed the latest Vista drivers?

Do you have any software like Skype or Yahoo phone (or whatever they
call it) that has automatic mic adjustment? Skype knocks mine down to
"Inaudible" every time with Vista but not with XP.

Also if you have speech to text enabled - or have had it enabled at some
time I think that may have an auto setting you can turn off.

<Don't believe a migrating corn picker out of the UK in Iowa. The only
thing he knows about microphones and computer stuff is when the count
the corn he picks for the day on a computer, and they announce it to him.>
