I search the boards but no one really answer this question. I plug in my
microphone a couple of times always getting the pop up and then I selected
don't ask me again thinking windows would remember this and I can keep using
it. Well when I was recording something in a program I notice it wasn't
working at all.

I double check the mircophone settings and everything is correct. Is there
some way I can get that pop up to show again.......?

*Please read the problem before answering with the same crap. Please and
thank you!

If you're tired of hearing the same old crap maybe you should supply some
specific information rather than being so general in describing the problem
and the solutions you've attempted.
Do you have any audio managing software on your computer? I have a Realtek
sound card and a Realtek window pops up when I plug in headphones or a
microphone. Is the microphone generic or does it belong to someone like
Labtec where it's driver might be supplying the pop up window. You don't
mention if the window comes from your OS or whereever! You don't mention
what the window displays.
Where did you check the settings to verify that everything was in
order-Windows Control Panel, Sounds or some proprietary software? Your
description of the pop-up is so vague how could anyone tell you how to make
it pop-up again?

Sorry, I was so busy venting I forgot to make my suggestions. Try using your
microphone with a really basic recording program: Start, All Programs,
Accessories, Sound Recording. If the microphone won't work in that program,
check Device Manager under sound, vdeo and game controllers. Anything yellow
or red? Check under Control Panel, Sound, Recording tab, and see if green
check is by microphone (Vista).
When my microphone went out I did all this-everything fine, no help, but
when I checked my sound card pop-up setting I found the microphone was turned
down real low. Reset the volume and everything fine. That's why I was
asking about the source of the pop-up window. Is it third party or being
generated by the OS? If it's third party you can then look into a manager
software setting or perhaps reinstall the software (driver installation) that
came came with the mike. Either might restore the pop-up.

Have you tried this:

Right click on the Speaker icon in the Notification Area of the Taskbar, select
Recording Devices, in the Recording window, right click and check both "Show
Disabled Devices" and "Show Disconnected Devices", highlight your microphone and
press the Set Default button. Use the Configure and Properties buttons to
configure the microphone.
