microphone problems using videocall since switching to vista

Ever since I have switched to vista, I can no longer get the videocall sound
to function properly. In the audio and video wizard, sound registers in the
green area, but when I make a videocall, there is nothing coming from my end.
I am using the same router and settings that always worked before, only a
new laptop and the vista os are different. I have tried setting both my
headphone mic and the one on my webcam. Any new ideas to try would be
appreciated.

Hi h,

Did you do an upgrade or do a clean install of Windows Vista? What
version of Vista are you running?

OS came installed in the laptop-Vista Home Premium. We can work around by
initiating a voice only call, then Actions-Video-Show my webcam/view their
webcam. My mic works that way, but if I use videocall, their is no input
from my end.

Hi h,

Using a Video Call, the only benefit is to go Full Screen on the
incoming Video.

However, you don't need to go Actions-Video-Show my webcam, once the
phone call is connected, just click on the Camera icon under each picture.
Of course, they need to accept.

Thank you for the shortcut. The only real problem seems to be sound quality.
I'm not sure why, but voice call does not have the same quality that
videocall did. It echoes and has a lot of background noise. Is there a
place I can tinker with that? Thanks for your help.

Hi h,

The only way to get rid of echoes, is to move the microphone away of the
speakers or to start to use a Headset that has a Microphone and Earphones .

Also another thing to try is to full around with the Microphone and
Speaker levels. Try for a compromise.
