microphone won't work

Just go a new computer ,,,Vista... my mic works fine for everything else but
Messenger... have done everything I can think of....according to messenger
all systems are working ..bought a new microphone but still isn't working...

yes, you are right i cannot speak with mick in messanger

Have you gone through the Audio and Video setup wizard recently? If not, open any Messenger
window, press the Alt key on the keyboard, choose Audio and Video setup and go through the
wizard to select and test the microphone.

Oct 13.... I think I've solved the problem.... downloaded FireFox...because I
was having some other issues that seemed to be IE related and lo and behold
the audio
function on Messenger started to work..... still a mystery...

I am having exact same problem but do not want to try firefox can anyone help
with the problem? a post suggested it may be a registry problem!

Hey , i have vista ultimate 64X and was having this same problem with my
integrated micncam. I went through the wizard once and thought everything was
ok however upon a second attempt i noted the device for the mic set to the
soundcard mic input not the webcam. The webcam was however listed in the
dropdown box and when selected as the mic device worked fine.

Thanks but I have tried everything, I am on the verge of using firefox like
like Lynne to see if this will work, struggling with volume settings now. I
use the philips 900c web cam and built in mic. Can anyone point me in the
right direction?
