Hey,

Im running Windows XP Professional with SP2, and i have all updates
installed on my computer.

Today microsoft, released two new updates wich are,

KB951748

KB890830

I installed both updates and i was prompted to restart my system, after the
restart i lost all my internet access, i couldnt access the internet using
any of my browsers (Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox).

After restarting my router, reconfiguring all my connection over again,
reseting both browsers default settings, i tried to run the ping command, and
i was able to ping all websites, google.com - microsoft.com just to name a
few.

I was forced to run system restore to get everything running properly. I can
confirm that after restoring my system to the time before the update i can
access the internet again.

Im writting this to alert you guys, and to know if this is a know issue and
if it has a way to work around apart from the one i did?

Thanks for the help in advance.

Hi

I had the same problem with today's "critical" updates but discovered that
by turning Zone alarm Firewall off (free version) rather than do a system
restore I got access back to both internet and my mail via Outlook. I too am
on XP Pro but SP3.
My question: Microsoft recommend setting updates to automatic.
My answer is to turn these off and only install after creating a restore
point.
This is the second time in three weeks that I feel like an MS guinea pig.

Any comments Microsoft?

Hey there,

I am using Zone Alarm Firewall indeed, im using the Pro version. I hope we
can get a word of Microsoft about this issue, at least remove the KB951748
update before more people get the same very problem.

Is there any way to delete these "updates." The Zone Alarm Pro fix worked
for me. Is it permitted to re-engage ZA?

I updated 3 files today, July 9, on Windows Update.

After updating & rebooting, I could no longer connect to the Internet, even
though the Control Panel's Network Connections said I was connected.

I removed one of the 3 downloaded files (KB951748) using the Control Panel's
"Add or Remove Programs" (Check the "Show Updates" box), rebooted and was
able to get back online.

I'm using XP Pro on a "white box" computer, with an AMD CPU.
ISP: Comcast with a cable modem
Browser: MS IE 7
I'm running ZoneAlarm (it wasn't an issue in the connection problem)

Keep an eye on this thread:

Although the fix here should work:
http://forum.zonelabs.org/zonelabs/b...ssage.id=52727

I strongly disagree with this advice:

Perhaps a better firewall is what's needed?

I was unaware of ZA problems with KB951748.
I uninstalled KB951748 (by chance, it wasn't by design, it was the 1st new
file I saw on my list) WITHOUT tweaking ZA, before or after, and it worked.
Thanks for the info.
