It is up to an individual to make it a pile of poo poo. You've made your
best (locally). Don't generalize. For me XP was a pile of poo poo when I
lost my Internet connection on my XP partition where I had my development
set up. At least 6 months of my work was lost because NOBODY could restore
it. I called DELL and they walked me thru all possible manuals and nothing
worked. They changed the motherboard, they usual answer to software
hang-ups, and it did not help either. From my past experience I knew that
installing a new clean XP is a total nightmare. It takes at least a week to
collect all drivers.

I decided to switch to Vista. I must admit I've had really hard time at the
beginning. I cursed Vista too but the dark past of XP was much worse. I
could not transfer some of my development to Vista because VFP9 does not
seem to be that eagerly supported. It may be on he way out. One cannot blame
MS for that.

In the end I have now Vista on 3 machines, may be getting the fourth one
even today but definitely tomorrow. I still have some XP on some partitions
and even Win2K on one but soon it all be Vista, Vista, Vista, nothing else
because thru trials and errors I and reading other people's posts, not
inflammable posts like yours, but constructive posts where people try to
resolve problems, I finally realized that it is a far more superior OS, but
it is not for everyone.

You may be too old for it, you may be lacking in IQ, you may be an
antisocial character by nature, God knows. If you are so mad with Vista, go
to XP forums and wallow in that old crapppp.

You think people here are idiots. We have out own Vista in our computers.
You are poo poo.

I'm afraid that's wishful thinking on your part.
There was a report today that Dell is selling
Vista at a 7 to 1 ratio vs XP. On the one hand,
it's amazing that 1 out of 8 Dell customers is
actually going to the trouble to find the older XP.
On the other hand, that's still 7 out of 8 who
probably don't even know about the Vista
controversy. Those are the ones who will show
up here asking, "Why won't it let me _____?"

The general concensus seems to be that business
is strongly avoiding Vista, with less than 1% uptake
at this point, but that retail PCs, as one would
expect, are mainly selling with Vista. In 1-3 years
everyone will have to accept Vista as a common
MS OS, like it or not.

You say that installing a new clean XP is a total nightmare. I've done this a many times, and
although I wouldn't go so far as to call it a total nightmare, it's not always straightforward I
agree. That said, I've had very few problems with XP drivers.

In what way has this been improved with Vista?

Alex, dont blame others for your own errors!

I backup even hourly when I am doing work that I would not want to lose..

some times even more frequently than that.. I NEVER have important data only
at one location EVER!

on important stuff I triple backup on different media! I have learned this
fast after I lost my first work..

never trust any computer with your data.. every computer can fail. Period.

There are people who know how to restore data even if the hard drive was in
a fire or
inside water for a week (actual stories)...

I have restored data from various machines that others thought were done
for..

its all about know how.

And I know for sure that XP is the best OS microsoft has ever made.. Vista
is a pile of crap
