You might wish to review the whole situation before deciding you have to buy
something afresh. Private individuals should not have Volume License Keys
on their PCs (VLKs are used by big corporates), and this is an indication
that there is possibly something not quite genuine about the XP installation
on this PC. But that VLK might have been placed on your PC by a maintenance
workshop, or someone else who offered to "fix" your PC for you. Most
consumers who purchased their PC with an XP pre-installed should have a
valid OEM license key on a sticker on their PC. If you have one of those,
and it corresponds to the correct version of the operating system, then
there is a method for you to correct the License Key in your installation
free of charge.
