Microsoft Formfill Missing After Windows Live Messenger Upgrade

Upon downloading the latest version of Windows Live Messenger, the icon and
function for my Microsoft Formfill tool has disappeared. I had userids and
passwords for uncountable web pages...and this little tool was probably used
more than any other icon, tool, or mini-program on my computer. When I try to
download the formfill tool again from Microsoft's add-ons gallery, I receive
a message that my computer already has the latest version, so it must still
be hidden on the hard drive, although I've not been successful in finding it.
Can Microsoft MVP or anyone help in recovering this useful program? There
was no warning that this would happen prior to the download of the upgraded
Win Live Messenger version. Thanks.

Greetings Warbler,

Yes, they cut Formfill from showing in the latest Live Toolbar version, I'm not sure why.

You can get it back by closing all Internet Explorer windows, pressing the Windows and R keys
together on the keyboard to open the Run box, and then paste the following:
msiexec /x {995F1E2E-F542-4310-8E1D-9926F5A279B3}

then click OK. Select Yes to uninstall the product.

This will uninstall the current Live Toolbar. Then you can go ahead and install the old
version of the Live toolbar by downloading and running this MSI:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/redir/toolbar2008.asp

During the installer you can select the Standard option if you like. Once this is done
installing, the Live Toolbar containing the Form Field feature should be back. You may have
to manually go and add the rest of the old buttons however.

YES!!!!! MVP Jonathon Kay's instructions worked! It not only restored my
Formfill, but also all the passwords and userids I had stored within it.
Caution though: After downloading the "old" msi, which brings back FORMFILL
with it, you do have to reboot before the old Windows Live Toolbar shows up
in IE. Per the MVP, you will have to redownload your other buttons which is
easy. But if you want your FORMFILL and the data you had stored within it
back again, just follow his instructions . THANKS MVP Kay!! You're the
Greatest!

Hi,

Glad I could be helpful. I didn't have to reboot when I tested this, but I did make sure IE
wasn't running during the procedure, not that it matters one way or another.

Hi Joel,

It looks like the 'data' for form fill is actually stored in the registry
(HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\AppDataLow\Software\Mi crosoft\MSN Apps\Form Fill, at least here
on Vista). That said, if it's not there anymore, it's probably gone I'm afraid.

One possibility if it wasn't that long ago, would be to use System Restore in Windows to go
back to when Form Fill was working, export this registry key to a file, and then reverse the
System Restore (this is an option in system restore, as it makes a restore point prior to
restoring), and then import that registry key exported file after that.
