MICROSOFT GARBAGE

Let's see, I have a brand new Dell Axim X51V with MICROSOFT WINDOWS MOBILE 5
on it and a desktop with MICROSOFT VISTA ULTIMATE on it and using MICROSOFT
WINDOWS MOBILE DEVICE CENTER will not sync with MICROSOFT OFFICE 2007
OUTLOOK at all. I have searched several forums, called tech support at Dell
and Microsoft, opened ports on firewalls, added programs as exceptions,
reinstalled operating systems, Office, WMDC all with the same result. These
MICROSOFT PRODUCTS DO NOT SUCCESSFULLY WORK TOGETHER.

No wonder Dell is jumping ship and getting out of the PPC market. MICROSOFT
could not find their ass with both hands.

I would venture to guess that NOBODY here can get the above products to work
together as they are supposed to, reliabily and without any problems. If
you can - please chime in here.

It is pretty unbelievable that MICROSOFT can not get their own products to
work together, and that so many people are having such problems with
synching Outlook 2007 and Vista.

Throw the PPC's in the garbage and get a small notepad and a pen. Works
great and the worst that can happen is the pen runs out of ink. No tech
support required, works EVERY time.

After this whole ordeal, If I could "Quit" on Microsoft and never buy or
support their products again I would but how is a person going to do this?
Instead, I simply have to give up the use of a PPC until MICROSOFT can
figure this out and make their products work together. Oh, I will still
have to make the paymets on my new Axim, even though it will not work as
advertised. My old X5 was fine, but it has MICROSOFT PPC 2003 on it and the
new MICROSOFT WMDC does not support their own products and said I needed a
PPC with WM5 or newer on it to work with MICROSOFT VISTA. I bought VISTA,
OFFICE 2007, WMDC latest release and a new PPC with WM5 on it and I still
can not sync with all the latest Microsoft products freshly installed,
thousands of dollars later. Good news for MICROSOFT though, they made a
bunch of money and thats what counts to them, not having software that works
with it's own.

Thanks to all on this site who have dilligently tried to help so many others
like myself, to no avail. Hopefully someday my new PPC will work before it
becomes extinct as well.

Just don't forget - We are all at the mercy of the MICROSOFT CORPORATION for
a solution here...

FWIW, and not to defend MS, especially since I spend more time here griping
about Vista than most but...

I have the same X51v. Only difference is, I was running Home Premium.
I Installed Vista, then Office 2007, you didn't say in which order you
installed things...
On first connect, the Sync Center opened up, followed by a dialog telling me
it was going to download and install MDC.
I said OK, it did its thing, and everything worked, first time.

Needless to say I was amazed. Especially considering my video card, sound
card, modem and card readers are now basically doorstops in Vista.
And thats even syncing across two (dual-boot) OS's - XP w/Office 2003 and
Vista w/Office 2007 - all synced...
Maybe you could try reinstalling Office and/or MDC?
Point is, I can vouch, that at least for me anyway, it all worked.

Re: Vista, I no longer have it installed - it's on its way back to MS via
UPS right now.
Too bad MORE things didn't work.

Hi,
I'm sorry you have had so many problems.

What is the exact details of what you experience? I too am new at
supporting WMDC.

Hi,
Also, just so you are aware, Windows Mobile 2003 devices are supported to
sync with WMDC. This is documented in the readme. See the last line at
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...icecenter.mspx "Supported Devices

Windows Mobile Device Center supports Windows Mobile 2003 or later
devices.

right - just to add to my earlier post, I had both an older Axim X3 (WM2003)
plus the new X51v working with MDC, no problems.

Can not get Dell X51V to sync with Outlook 2007. Brand new Dell Axim only
two days old. Nothing installed but Outlook Business Contact manager for
PPC.

Deleted and reinstalled WMDC version 6.0.6783.
Added ports to Windows Firewall Exceptions as suggested in WMDC
troubleshooting
Added exception in One Care Firewall Settings as explained in this Newsgroup
Tried shutting off firewall alltogether
Went to "serial mode" on PDA with no luck. WMDC will install proper driver
for either config and recognize PDA with same result.
WMDC will connect and recognize PDA correctly and will let me install
programs and browse CF card, but can NOT sync at all.
Error in Sync Center - Active Sync encountered an error on the Desktop
Also have installed Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2007 and the PPC
Version - I get error "unexpected error opening the Business Contact Manager
store." when I check the option to sync with it.
I also get a pop up error from WMDC saying:
"Synchronization cannot be started because you are not able to log on to the
network and access information. Restart your desktop computer and
synchronize again. If the problem persists, contact your network admin."
I have not tried to uninstall Live One Care but have heard this program
causes problems..
Patiently waiting to get my Outlook data onto my new PPC.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Fresh install of VISTA ULTIMATE, with a fresh install of OFFICE 2007. WMDC
will connect to the PDA but WILL NOT synch with Ouutlook at all. Besides,
synching a PPC to Outlook should not require re-installation of OS or Office
suites to work correctly. How difficult of a computing task is it really to
synch data? How particular does the software need to be to function
correctly? Did your Outlook Data actually Synch to your PPC using Vista and
Outlook 2007? Did the NOTES correctly transfer? Without any problems or
duplicates? No errors? It actually corked as it should and on repeated
synchs? If so, then you are the first person I have heard of having this
work...

I do recall ONE thing I did, something I now do out of habit
ActiveSync has been, for most if its life cycle, a real POS.
Getting it to work was a crapshoot - random failures were not uncommon.
It sometimes took hand-to-hand combat to get it to work at all.

Especially lately, or rather, since the 4.x's began rolling out.
My latest "battle" with AS came as a result of my Axim suddenly -only-
connecting as Guest.
None of the typical advice worked - delete partnerships, restore from a
backup, repair outlook, blah blah blah

The ONE thing that I did before Vista, was that I not only deleted all
partnerships on the PC, but I also deleted all on the PPC, via the registry.
This last item is what usually saved me from all of the problems listed
above - including the "Connect as Guest Only" issue

You'll need a utility to accomplish this, I use Resco File Explorer - this
comes with a Registry Viewer/Editor.
I'm sure there are others

- navigate to HKCU/Software/Microsoft/ActiveSync/Partners
- delete EVERYTHING in this branch, leaving only an empty "Partners" key
- navigate to HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows CE Services/Partners
- delete EVERYTHING in this branch, leaving only an empty "Partners" key

connect and re-establish a new partnership again
This one step has cured more connection problems for me than any other.

Browse the eBooks newsgroup. Where devices with a _Microsoft_ OS running
_Microsoft_ Reader can't activate their copies on a _Microsoft_ server by
the droves.

Microsoft (albeit in the guise of a very helpful and supportive employee)
claims it's an OEM problem. I claim otherwise. Nevertheless - we all know
that software will work on 99 PC's and will screw everything up on the
100th.

No excuse for either Microsoft, programmers or hardware producers, but it
remains a sad and very costly fact of life. If I could claim my hours
trying to keep Microsoft's products alone up and running, I'd be a very
wealthy guy without the need to ever work again. Alas.

Hi,
Did you try unchecking the USB advanced functionality if the Axim has it?
