I do recall ONE thing I did, something I now do out of habit
ActiveSync has been, for most if its life cycle, a real POS.
Getting it to work was a crapshoot - random failures were not uncommon.
It sometimes took hand-to-hand combat to get it to work at all.
Especially lately, or rather, since the 4.x's began rolling out.
My latest "battle" with AS came as a result of my Axim suddenly -only-
connecting as Guest.
None of the typical advice worked - delete partnerships, restore from a
backup, repair outlook, blah blah blah
The ONE thing that I did before Vista, was that I not only deleted all
partnerships on the PC, but I also deleted all on the PPC, via the registry.
This last item is what usually saved me from all of the problems listed
above - including the "Connect as Guest Only" issue
You'll need a utility to accomplish this, I use Resco File Explorer - this
comes with a Registry Viewer/Editor.
I'm sure there are others
- navigate to HKCU/Software/Microsoft/ActiveSync/Partners
- delete EVERYTHING in this branch, leaving only an empty "Partners" key
- navigate to HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows CE Services/Partners
- delete EVERYTHING in this branch, leaving only an empty "Partners" key
connect and re-establish a new partnership again
This one step has cured more connection problems for me than any other.
