Ok, this is the second time I have seen applications that use the Microsoft
Installer do this. Currently after installing a program like Acrobat 8.1 Pro,
the microsoft installer launches and tries to correct issues with the Acrobat
8.1 installation when I right click on icons, folders or open office
applcations.
I have traced this down to errors in the event viewer that claim certain
registry keys don't exist for the Acrobat applicaiton under HKCR. When I
check to see if these keys are there, I see the root key and when I click on
it the system complains that Access is Denied. I can take ownership and then
set permissions, but there are way too many keys and sub keys to do this with.
The problem with permissions on HKCR keys after installation has happened
before and last time I had dumped the product I was trying to use (Roxio) and
re-installed Vista Ultimate.
Now that I see this is happening with other products, I would like to find a
solution for correcting it or at least finding out what on the machine might
be causing the installer to mess up these keys and not set the proper
permissions.
Anyone have any clues or seen similar problems?
