Microsoft messenger online but other people can't see me

I am having this problem . I can see all my contacts online but from
their side I look like I am offline. If i initiate a chat with them, they can
reply but the top of the window says "(me) may not reply as he or she appears
offline"

I am having the same issue, I've try uninstalling and reinstall a few times
with the same result. But if I use the normal Windows Messenger, or MSN
Messenger 7.5 its back to normal.

This is an error we're interested in for sure. Does it happen for you all
the time? What if you use web messenger?
