Ok it's old but that is no reason why it should not run....

I have upgraded (hah!) to Vista Ultimate 64 bit following a disk crash..
I was running this version of Money on XP x64 but now it just crashes
following an import of a mbf (money backup) file.,

I have done what ppl have suggested - try to online update Money, but it
*still* crahses..

HELP please!!

On the contrary, of course that is a perfectly good reason why your program
might not run on an entirely different operating system from that in which
it was designed to work natively. Some programs are backwards compatible
and some are not. Some 32-bit programs will run well in a 64-bit operating
system and some will not. This is a computing fact not limited to the world
of Windows operating systems.

Probably that version of Money isn't compatible with Vista 64. Post in the
Money newsgroup to get advice from the Money experts:

microsoft.public.money

You have to run Money with elevated privileges to install updates. Right
click on the link used to launch Money and select "Run as administrator".

If Money updates you had installed previously on x64 XP are not installed in
Vista, Money will think your data file is corrupted and crash or report
errors.

Also, your data file must be in your User area, not the Program Files area.

Thanks (ironic..) for the help..

I have run old versions of plenty of programs .. IF I was cynical I would
say it is in microsoft's interests to make oler versions NOT compatible..

As it is, they have made many programs compatible, and your comment is not
very helpfui..

You can browse for more information at
http://money.mvps.org/faq/default.aspx but as far as I know it is only
possible to access and export Money data from within a running instance of
Money.

There are Money newsgroups which are likely to give you more help:
microsoft.public.money and microsoft.public.uk.money depending on your
location.
