Microsoft >NET 2.0 update install on MS Update

Looks like we are having the same problem with .NET 2.0 update. I tried
twice to update with 2.0 and program comes back and says it did not update.
Desktop is running XP Home with SP 2.
Laptop with MS update, running XP PRO with SP2, says it updated to 2.0. Ran
for a while and then I hit cancel, thought it was in a loop, .NET 2.0 then
finied the update.
Wierd...In essence, what gives?

I had the 2.0 Beta runtime installed. Uninstalled that then it worked fine.

Thanks, Clay....Had .NET 2.0 Beta 2 installed from August of this year.
Followed advice and uninstalled Beta. Will try again to install .NET2.0

I have the same Problem of updating my Microsoft Windows XP Professional
edition to Microsoft.Net Framework 2.0 x86 (KB829019) and it give me the
Error Code:0x643 and I don't think I have the 2.0 Beta runtime installed on
my machine. So how can I updated to that?

Try going to Control panel, add & remove programs, and remove .Net 2.0. Like
Clay advised, remove any 2.0 Beta's or 2.0. Then try to install again. Also,
look at any software you have that may be blocking the install, such as
spyware programs, etc. Good luck.

I have been unable to install the .NET update. I am running Windows 2000
Professional on an IBM ThinkPad Laptop. I do not have any beta versions of
..net installed. I have Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1 as well as the hotfix
for it - (KB886903). I tried installing it with the critical updates, then
seperate from the critical updates. Both times I got error 0x659; I have no
idea what that error means.

Additionally, as recommended on this forum, I tried going to the Microsoft
..NET Framework developer centerand downloading/installing it directly from
that site
(http://msdn.microsoft.com/netframewo...s/default.aspx). I
tried installing the Redistributal Package (2.0 x86) as the site says this
must be installed before installing the SDK 2.0 x86 package. It was unable
to install; the error message said that it either could not open the
installation package or a required file.

The only thing I have yet to try is to uninstall the 1.1 version (and
hotfix) before trying to install the 2.0 version. I did not think this was
necessarily causing a problem since all the posts I have read so far said
that only those people with beta versions had to uninstall them first.

I will post again once I have tried uninstalling version 1.1 first.

Ever think about beginning a new thread about /your/ problem, instead of
"piggybacking" onto all these other threads, no matter how similar their
problems may be?
