Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 Installation Failure

Has anyone else encountered errors installing Service Pack 1 for the .NET
Framework 1.1 after installation of Windows XP Service Pack 2? The error is
as follows:

Error Code: E0434F4D

I'm offered an opportunity to fire up the Visual Studio .NET 2003 debugger,
but decline to do so.

I found the same problem regarding the .NET Framework 1.1 I get message
saying its downloaded but not installed & my update log for Windows says it
is a failed application

I stumbled into the resolution myself. If anyone wants more details about
