"Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1" won't install

I get the following error message every time I try to install Microsoft .NET
Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1:

SL77B.tmp - Common Language Runtime Debugging Services
Application has generated an exception that could not be handled.
Process id=0x6e4 (1764)
Thread id=0xb24 (2852)

My system: Dell I8K, WinXP SP2, 528M RAM

Any ideas???
