Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Solution Center

During installation of software on my computer to enable a link up with our
Canon Power Shot A720 IS camera, I was advised it was necessary to install
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Solution Center. The folder name and path is
C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727. The size is 26.6 MB.

Will I automatically receive updates to .NET Framework 2.0 Solution Center
through Windows Update or what should I do?

I have a Dell Dimension 4100 Desktop computer with Windows XP operating
system - Home Edition - Service Pack 2, Pentium 111 processor at 930 MHZ, 20
GB Hard Drive and 512 MB of RAM. The system is FAT 32.

Many thanks for your co-operation and advice.

Yes, the system will be notified when pertinent updates are available.
Has Service Pack 1 for .NET 2 been offered yet ?

BTW, when the .NET Framework Runtime was installed, did Canon rename it
to ' .NET Framework 2.0 Solution Center '?

Please read this to mitigate any future issues when installing a Service
Pack or Security updates for .NET 2:

The .NET Framework 2.0 SP1 installation fails on a computer that has the
..NET Framework 2.0 installed and that is running Windows XP, Windows
Server 2003, or Windows 2000

Thank you for your response.

Regarding your two questions, my technical expertise is limited in this
respect and I can only respond accordingly. I don't know if Service Pack 1
for .Net 2 has been offered or if Canon renamed the item you indicated. I
received some downloads to-day through Windows Update but do not know what
they are.

I only know that during installation of the software to link my camera to
the computer, a notice appeared on the screen saying it was necessary to
install the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Solution Center. I would assume
from this it had been determined that the .NET Framework 2.0 Solution Center
was lacking and must have same for a successful installation. Accordingly, I
proceeded to download and install it.

I was subsequently told the installation was successful and was able to
download the pictures on the camera to the computer; however, not knowing
what function the .NET Framework 2.0 Solution Center performs I cannot tell
whether everything is as it should be.

I will adopt the position that all is o:k unless you see something I can do
to confirm that.

Many thanks for your co-operation and advice.

You're mowst welcome, Stewart. The Canon software installs .NET
Framework 2 because it is dependent upon it to function.
Glad to hear that SP1 was offered, as it should be. It *should* install
without any issues since the original installation source/cache is still
present on the Operating System and the registry has not been 'mucked'
with.
Basically, the MSKB identifies these specific causes for said
installation issues:

> After a hotfix or an update is installed on a Windows Installer-based product, the hotfix registration

Let's hope that others see who have .NET Frameworks installed read this.
