I posted an error message under Eric's message in which Eric states his error
as 0x1011 for Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0: x64).

I have the same error message (0x1011) for Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0: x86
(KB829019).

I just tried to update again aftyer six tries, with no luck. Can someone
help me here? Please!

TaurArian responded there. Did you see this?

<snip>
Required Software:
Windows Installer 3.0 (except for Windows 98/ME, which require Windows
Installer 2.0 or later). Windows Installer 3.1 or later is recommended.
IE 5.01 or later: You must also be running Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01
or later for all installations of the .NET Framework.
Disk Space Requirements: 280 MB (x86), 610 MB (x64)
Important: Make sure you have the latest service pack and critical updates
for the version of Windows that you are running. To find recent security
updates, visit Windows Update.
IMPORTANT: If you have installed previous pre-release versions of .NET
Framework v2.0, such as Beta 1, Beta 2 or Community Technical Preview (CTP)
builds, then you must uninstall these versions via Add/Remove Programs in
Control Panel before installing this final release version.

Yes, I saw that and I should have read more carefully. I skimmed it and made
a mistake assuming it was for the x64 only -- not seeing it pertained to
x86's also. Sorry. I'll follow the instructions and see what happens.
Thanks for your reply to this so soon. ~Drew

Uninstall the 2.0 Beta. Install of x86 .NET Framework then updated without
error. No reboots required.

I forgot to uninstall .NET Framework 2.0 Beta before the autoinstall too.
However, at the time of uninstalling .NET Framework 2.0 beta I noticed that
..NET Framework 1.1 is coexisting with 2.0 beta. Should I do anything about
the 1.1? I certainly do not want to uninstall recklessly and then I am
disabled from the internet to install anything further.

Zen:

I actually uninstalled everything that had to do with .NET Framework.
However, all I had to do was just uninstall the 'beta(s)' of .Net Framework
2.0. Otherwise, if you uninstall everything, you will have to go through the
process of installing .Net Framework 1.1, install the service pack for it.
So, the answer to your posed question is NO.

I have been unable to install the .NET update. I am running Windows 2000
Professional on an IBM ThinkPad Laptop. I do not have any beta versions of
..net installed. I have Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1 as well as the hotfix
for it - (KB886903). I tried installing it with the critical updates, then
seperate from the critical updates. Both times I got error 0x659; I have no
idea what that error means.

Additionally, as recommended on this forum, I tried going to the Microsoft
..NET Framework developer centerand downloading/installing it directly from
that site
(http://msdn.microsoft.com/netframewo...s/default.aspx). I
tried installing the Redistributal Package (2.0 x86) as the site says this
must be installed before installing the SDK 2.0 x86 package. It was unable
to install; the error message said that it either could not open the
installation package or a required file.

The only thing I have yet to try is to uninstall the 1.1 version (and
hotfix) before trying to install the 2.0 version. I did not think this was
necessarily causing a problem since all the posts I have read so far said
that only those people with beta versions had to uninstall them first.

I will post again once I have tried uninstalling version 1.1 first.

Ever think about beginning a new thread about /your/ problem, instead of
"piggybacking" onto all these other threads, no matter how similar their
problems may be?
