Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 HELP!

I've been trying to download this update but it keeps failing. I was trying
to follow the Microsoft instructions at
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923100 and got as far removing all the
versions of the .Net Framework but now I can't get any of them to reinstall!
When I try to reinstall .NET Framework 1.0 (which I assume these must all be
done in order) I get the following pop-up "please type the location where you
want to place the extracted file." I have no clue what that means or what to
do next as I can't get past that pop-up. How do I properly re-install all of
these 1.0 through 3.5 so I'm up to date? I have Windows XP Home Edition if
that matters.

Thank you in advance!

It's asking you were to place the files used to install .NET
This is usually done automatically during the installation process.

Try creating a directory/folder named: C:\abc123.
Then start the install again and when asked to type the
location of the extracted files, enter C:\abc123.

If this solves your problem, then after installing .NET
the C:\abc123 folder should have been deleted.

Hi,
Don't seem to be able to start a new question, so I do so by replying to
this one. Sorry for that.

I tried already several times to get "KB951847: Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5
Service Pack 1 en .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update x86" installed and it
always fails, right at the end of the download, with error 0x80246002.
Current .NET version is 3.0 and I still have 36GB of free disk space, which
I suppose should be sufficient.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
Werner.

You receive a "0x80246002" error code when you use the Windows Update or
Microsoft Update Web sites to install updates

As an aside, the only update for any of the .Net things was v1.1. All
others add functions to the .Net capability.
I never installed any version of .Net. Over time, though, I installed
various software packages that, evidently, required at least one version
that the system did not have.
Thus, now, this computer has 1.1, 2.0 SP2, 3.0 SP2, and 3.5 SP1. If I
remember correctly, Visual Studio installed 2.0. TurboTax installed one of
the others. The rest may have been installed by the catchall update for
3.5.

All of the .Net packages are the latest version of that particular package.

I tried both methods described in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958056.
1) rename download folder => same error "0x80246002"
2) manual download via MS Update Catalogus => download fails with error
"8DDD0023"
This update is eating up my monthly ISP download quota :-(
Any other suggestions?

You can request free email support from Microsoft for WU woes:
http://support.microsoft.com/oas/def...spx?gprid=6527

If you visit JS's pagestart site, you may find a way to shrink the update:
