Microsoft.NET Framework and Visual Studio

I am mostly a gamer and a casual browser. I have no .NET frameworks or
Visual Studios installed. I do not create videos or software or
anything of that nature.

Would it benefit me in any way to install either of these programs? If
it would help or could help in even the most remote of situations I
might encounter, I would like to install them.

The .NET framework is embedded in Vista. Visual Studio is developer
software, which has to be installed.

You've already got the framework, and lots of programs depend on it
nowadays. Unless you'll venture into game, program or web site development,
you'll gain nothing from installing Visual Studio.

Its already in Windows Vista and its important for most modern applications
that designed and depend on the .NET Framework Runtime.

Thx for the information.

I uninstalled all of the .NET entires(1.1 and two others that said x64
by them) under add/remove programs. There is still a framework listed
under the programs and programs(x86) folder in the OS harddrive that
lists v3.0.

Do I need to reinstall 1.1, then install 2.0, then 3.0, all the way to
3.5, or can I just install 3.5?

What is your OS? In Vista, you can go here to adjust the installed features:

Control Panel > Programs > Turn Windows features on or off

You can install version 3.5, it includes previous versions and service
packs, and the installer will add what is needed to your system:

Don't worry about it. If at some point you
install a program written in .Net that requires
a framework you don't have then you can
download and install that framework. Most
commercial software doesn't use .Net, anyway.
It's mainly used for server-based software.
Either way, there's no point in cluttering the
system with the .Net runtime, the Java runtime,
etc., unnecessarily, when you don't need them.
