Microsoft .NET Framework Needed?

When I run Windows Update for my XP/Home system the updates for Microsoft
..NET Framework 1.1 SP3 and also version 1.1 SP1 shows up. I am a home user,
not developing anything. Do I really need these updates. These items showed
up after I installed Windows XP Service Pack 2.
I had previously installed Microsoft .NET Framework version 1.1 under
Service Pack 1. If I don't install these updates will Microsoft take my
first born????
Any advice appreciated,
