Hey there, if you are me who's doing MS security for company then you know
that MS decided to release IE7 via MS update after November 1st. This has
****ed me off big time because most of our web applications do not work with
IE7. By realeasing IE7 via MS update, we have to prevent it from installing
on thousands of our machines. Imagine the pain that we are going to have if a
few hundreds userrs get the IE7 from the web and call for support. It is time
to call for Microsoft to stop this release to MS Updates.

I agree. Making this update available is absurd.

How long have you known your applications don't work with MSIE7 and done
nothing about it ?

There's a large bank in Southern Ireland whose on-line user pages don't work
with MSIE7 either, so despite having access to the betas like the rest of us
and even having been told that they were going to be in big trouble they've
happily ignored the issue, stuck their fingers in their ears and said "la,
la, la la - we can't hear you" for 6-9 months. So shortly when all their
customers have MSIE7 rolled out by Windows update their phone lines are
going into meltdown

I'm afraid I haven't got much sympathy for businesses that have had plenty
of warning and access to the betas and just sat with their fingers up their
whatsits

I've been working for months to have all our applications fixed in plenty of
time and we're ready.

I disagree. It's easy to block the AU offer. IE6 vulnerability control
through patching is inferior to IE7's code rewrite. Users should not be
easily taken advantage of - pushing the upgrade mitigates victimization.

Toolkit to Disable Automatic Delivery of Internet Explorer 7
has either IE70Blocker.adm or IE70Blocker.cmd to create a registry
key that can turn off the AU offer of IE7. Remote or local. There is
a help page in the download also. That's Freudi's link:

I completely agree. As a software company you will always have issues if you
want to move forward in your product. At some point in its development cycle
you are going to break backwards compatibility with some other application
(be that a website or a program). This shouldn't stop you from development,
that simply wouldn't be a good business move in a world where customers
expect constant updates and features being added to your product. So the
best you can do is make changes and provide access to those changes with
enough notification so that people can make sure they work with you. If they
choose not to do that, it is their own short-sightedness that will eventually
cause the collapse of their business. Welcome to the technology world.

I tried it in the Beta version and I did not like it. there was always
a tabbed wind open with nothing in it, perhaps that has been fixed but
who knows?
