Microsoft plans to open stores? This can't be a good idea.
Just let Best Buy, WalMart, Office Depot and like stores
sell the software. Won't this cause the Big Boxes to start
to offer Linux machines? If only because MS is dipping
into their pool.

Gateway yesterday
Circuit City today
Microsoft tomorrow

I think the plan is to have a store which sells all manufacture's Windows
PC's, Microsoft peripherals and software. Look for very accessible demo
displays where you can sit down and try out numerous working PC's with Hero
installs of Microsoft OS's and applications with a minimum of trial ware and
freeware. Look for all the computers to be fully operative and fully
connected to the internet. Imagine a display counter with numerous models of
netbooks for hands on exploration. Another display for business laptops and
gaming laptops.. All set up and tweaked.

I think it will be a very appealing environment to shop in that will be well
maintained, dwarfing anything a full line electronics store will carry.

Maybe when you are on the board of directors you can let them know a retail
store is a bad idea.

Microsoft is afraid of choice.

It is an interesting possibility IMO but Microsoft might not succeed
without violating more antitrust laws, attempting to keep other
Microsoft product retailers from straying.

Maybe Microsoft will try using it as a place to sell their
subscription software computers. I should take a look at the story.
Thanks trig.

Bill Gates said something about high technology getting us through
this depression? I would like to see Bill Gates do something like T.
Boone Pickens building a bunch of wind turbines or whatever. Maybe
Bill Gates thinks that opening computer stores will help get us out of
the depression. But opening computer stores sounds like going back to
the way it started before computers were available in ordinary retail
stores.

Time will tell.

Look people Microsoft stopped selling a lot of their software at retail
stores because they have said most people buy the software on the internet
and I read that on their own web site. So if that was the case then why do
they need their own stores. Because of one thing only and that is greed. So
they can shove up their already hi priced software even higher than it
already is. So why would someone go to their own retail store and buy
software when it would cost more that at another retail store I will never
visit a Microsoft Retail Store in my life because I do not like the greed
involved with that. And if they are doing this because of the money they
have lost then why did the stop letting other retail markets from selling
their software.
