Microsoft Update causes 100 % CPU at every reboot

On Windows XP Home with all of the latest updates installed including IE 7 I
have started to see the Microsoft Update svchost.exe eating the CPU every
time I reboot the system.

This is very annoying as you now have to sit and wait a couple of minutes
extra, before the system is ready.

Could someone at Microsoft not make sure this problem gets fixed, please?
Any program that eats the whole CPU is a menace. Bad coding practice and here
employed by Microsoft itself.
