Following Microsoft Updates fail with error code 0x80070643:
- Scurity update for MS Visio 2003 (KB947650)
- Scurity update for MS Office 2003 (KB947355)
- Scurity update for MS Office 2003 (KB945185)

According to KB-arcticle 903772 one should try one of these methods::

1st trial:

Set Office Source Engine-Service into status "manual".

I did so. I also deactivated the service before I reset it to "manual".
I also tried the update with the service being started.

No success :-(

2nd trial:

Replace OSE.EXE with that from CD.

I did so, but no success.

My OSE-EXE-Version: 1.0.5525 (89.136 Bytes)

Versions:
- Windows XP SP2 and SP3*
- Office 2003 SP3
*) The update error 80070643 came before SP3 was installed, and after
installation of SP3.

The KB article also recommends to reinstall Office 2003. However,
before I do a new installation of Office I will prefer not to install the
updates :-((

Any ideas?

Ursula

All three (3) possible Resolutions in KB903772 should apply here.

Try inserting your Office 2003 CD into the appropriate bay before attempting
to install the updates.

Try downloading the appropriate fullfile version of each update and
installing manually.

Try the following and post back with result

1st Rename Office subkeys

Note: Removing the following registry keys may reset customized user
settings for your Microsoft Office programs.

1. Close all the applications.
2. Click on Start->Run, type in REGEDIT and click on OK.
3. Locate and select the following registry subkeys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0

4. Right click on 11.0 and rename them to Old11.
5. Close the Registry Editor.

2nd. Detect and Repair Office 2003

1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start, point to and click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
3. Click Change/Remove Programs on the left pane.
4. Highlight Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 on the right pane
and click Change.
5. Insert the correct version of CD when it requires.
6. Select “Reinstall and Repair” and click Next.
7. Select “Detect and Repair errors in my Office installation”.
8. Click Install and wait the process to end.

3rd. Install the Updates

It was enough to clear "LocalCacheDrive" to "C". It contained
a path "C:\abcdef".

Thanks :-)

Thanks for the hint.

It was enough to clear "LocalCacheDrive" to "C".
For some reasons it contained a path "C:\abcdef".

Thanks :-)
