Microsoft update fails to install updates

Hi - upgraded my PC to XP SP2 (had to remove and reinstall due to outdated
graphics drivers) but now it runs (nearly) without problems (had to disable
WIA service as this fails during boot, wonder why?). Microsoft updates
locates updates, downloads these but fails to install - it simply reports
"the following updates were not installed" and list all updates. Have tried
to pick other updates (hardware, software etc) but all same problem. Did work
before the SP2 update.
I can manually download the updates and install them succesfully. This also
removes them from the update list.
Have also tried to download and install the latest installer, but no change.

Does anyone have a clue?

install. How do you install it manually?

You get the list of updates - i.e. KB893086
Search KB893086 in google, and
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../ms05-016.mspx will show up
(from here on you can use the search microsoft.com box in the top).
From these bulletins there are shortcuts for downloading the patches directly.
