The system is Windows XP Pro with Microsoft Ofiice Professional Edition 2003
with Business Contact Manager. Microsoft Update insisted that the Office XP
Service Pack 3 update is a critical update. I was suspicious based on the
update description.
When I allowed it to download and install, the display stated it was
successful. BUT Microsoft Update, on the next scan, still insisted that the
Office XP Service Pack 3 is still needed as a critical update. This also
occurs if I turn on Automatic Updateas well. In addition there is no entry
in the Add/Remove Programs List.
Prior to the new Microsoft Update rollout, neither Windows Update or Office
update ever reported the Office XP Service Pack 3 update as being needed.
FYI: The MS Office Professional Edition 2003 with Business Contact Manager
was an upgrade of MS Word 2002. I also have System restore disabled.
I suspect the MS Update is erroneously reporting the update as being needed.
In the meantime I have the Office XP Servie Pack 3 update "hidden".
Any ideas or suggestions welcome.
