Microsoft Update Progress bar trouble

Hi all, this is an issue I have while trying to update my Windows XP since a
week ago:
I click on either custom or express buttons to search for updates and all I
get is the green progress bar passing by time after time and nothing else
happens, I never get promped to the usual download list.

Please, any ideas!? I have trying reinstalling ActiveX components, please
help!!!

scroll down 35 lines and click "Scan for updates freezes or stops at 0%"

1. Open Internet Explorer, click Tools, click Internet Options, click Connections, click LAN
Settings. Uncheck "Automatically Detect Settings" and "Use Automatic configuration script"

2. Also in the Internet options, General tab, click the "Delete files" Button, to Clear all
temp files, including off-line content, click the "Delete Cookies..." button.

This fix is for if you have a firewall that blocks direct Internet access
and use a web proxy. Windows update ignores your manual proxy settings, but
will follow the rules of an autoconfig script.

This fix assumes your network has an automatic configuration script.for IE.
If your network does not (Netware/Unix network), this will not work and
won't help you..Instead you can use a commandline tool known as "proxycfg"
to manually set the Windows Update proxy settings. This tool isn't included
with any Win 2000 service pack so you'd need to request MS support to mail
it to you:
