Greetings All,

I have been having a little trouble with the microsoft update service.
Whenever I navigate to the microsoft update (v6) website I am greeted with a
message informing me that the site cannot continue as one of three windows
services vital to microsoft update (v6) is not running. This is where the
problem lays; all three of these services (Automatic Updates, BITS and The
Event Log) are in fact running and are set to automatic as is required.

Also I have noticed that automatic updates seems to be acting rather irratic
as well. While the service does seem to download updates and indeed offers me
the opportunity to install it seems to disapper part way through the
installation. The icon will just vanish with out a trace, no prompt to
restart the computer, no error message, nothing.

It might be worth noting that I had been having a few problems with COM+
that required me to repair/reinstall the COM+ cataloque. However, to my
knowledge this issue was resolved as I followed online instructions to repair
the COM+ and an error associated with the apparent corruption of the
catalogue is now resolved.

<title>How to read the Windowsupdate.log file</title>
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/902093

Hints: if necessary there is a verbose option you could activate.
Also you could Run... ProcMon to supplement the log's messages
with the intervening registry and file accesses.

Good luck
