There are a number of posts about Microsoft Update consuming all the
processor resources and also never finishing scanning for updates.

I followed the advice of one post here and went to the Microsoft Update
site, choose change settings, and at the bottom chose to return to Windows
Update only, thus excluding automatic Office Updates.

All my problems immediately ended.

Cheers,

mike

Thank you Mike,
Your help has been much appreciated as IT WORKS!
Microsoft Update is now disabled on my y2k machine so that it doesn't lock
me up again.
Cheers,
David

I've not had any real problems with the Microsoft Update site, but I'm
only using Office 97, and it's probably not supported any more. I'm
wondering if I should just return to Windows Update site? I don't use
automatic updates at all... I just do them manually on update Tuesday,
or when I read in a newsgroup that MS has released an update early,
like the one on April 3 or 4.

Hi Mike,
I'm a network admin for over 800 machines - do you know how to deploy
this solution through AD? I would hate to do this manually!! thx~ Jeff
