Microsoft Update: What is the status of the svchost problem?

A few months ago I had a computer (running XP) that slowed to a crawl after
installing Microsoft Update (as opposed to Windows Update). An svchost
process would utilise 99% CPU.

The fix for this problem involved two downloaded patches and I think at
least one of these has now been incorporated into a routine update. Do I
still need to intervene when this problem is suspected or will applying the
routine updates now take care of it?

Both, Windows Update Agent 3.0 *and* KB927891(v3) are offered via Auto/
Windows/Microsoft Update since at least June 2007.
