Not what Microsoft says --
Their site says "The best place to start is the Microsoft Windows Update
Web site:
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com (
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com)
Click Scan for updates in the left column, and then click Driver Updates."
and
"If you cannot find the driver that you require on the Windows Update
Web site, you can check your hardware manufacturer's Web site."
and
"Remember that some drivers that are available on manufacturer Web sites
may not have passed Microsoft compatibility testing and might damage
your computer."
I just checked, and MS Update is offering me the "Alps Pointing-device"
for my Dell Dimension 4800 PC. I don't even know what an "Alps" is, let
alone have one.
But I am not an IDIOT -- I would never install a MS offered driver on my
computer. BECAUSE I RUINED MY WINDOWS 98 COMPUTER THAT WAY. (Shouting
intentional).
