Microsoft Update used on some windows xp sp3 machine for several months.
No probs till now.
But now, while trying to apply the December security patches, MU claims
some ActiveX component needs to be updated. Without enabling this update
no chance to continue with installation of Dez security patches.

Why this request suddenly ?
Did some change recently regarding the MU ActiveX component ?

WYSIWYG. The WGA-related ActiveX Control necessary for updating with the WU
website is frequently updated. If you don't want to install the updated
version, you'll have to depend on Automatic Updates to bring in your
updates.
