I went to get my Windows updates and in the middle of getting them I get an
error code 80072efd. I saw Get Help next to the error code and clicked on
it. It took me to the Windows Help.

It said:

If you use a different firewall, refer to the software publisher's help to
see how to add these websites to your firewall exceptions list:

http://*.update.microsoft.com

https://*.update.microsoft.com

http://download.windowsupdate.com

I did refer to the software publisher's help to see how to add these
websites to the firewall exceptions list and I could not find anything.

I have the Windows firewall disabled. I am not sure where in Norton 360 the
firewall exception list is. This is not the first time I have gotten this.
I tried resolving this on my own and I am not sure how to fix this.

Try Chat, rather than email or phone. They charge for phone:

I did try the chat option and talked to 3 different people and NONE were
helpful knowledgable or knew what they were talking about. I also talked to
HP and they wanted me to disable my firewall while I get the updates after I
REPEATEDLY told them I will not disable my firewall while while connected to
the internet. I found out that if I am connected to the Windows firewall and
disable the Norton firewall and when Im done disable the windows firewall and
enable the Norton firewall i can get the updates. That is going to be
annoying every time I need to get updates.

Then replace the Norton 360 firewall with a better value, for instance:
http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.c..._firewall.html

A real firewall would be a dedicated appliance between the Internet
and your protected computer(s). Checkpoint is well rated, but costs
thousands of dollars. Personal firewalls just kind of fake it - all of
them are vulnerable due to being run on the protected system:

Putting a NAT (network address translating) router between the cable or
DSL modem and your computer(s) is inexpensive - they're about $50 now:

I have used Symantec products in the past and have not had any problems with
them and I will continue using them whether it be anti-virus, checking for
spyware, or firewall. The only issue with norton 360 is the firewall
interfering with the Windows updates and thats it and I consider that not a
big deal. If the updates want to download and install with the Norton
firewall enabled then fine and if not then they must not be that important to
get.
