I have tried unsuccessfully to install the abovementioned updates. I am
running windows xp home sp3 and have automatic updates activated. These
updates are successfully downloaded but continually fail when trying to
install them.
I am hoping other users have had the same problem but have managed to find a
solution to this problem. I would appreciate any help in relation to this
matter.

I'm having the same problem. None of the suggestions given at the
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304498 link worked. Does anyone have any more
suggestions?
Thanks,

I have exactly the same problem with KB951535. I've spent time looking at the
Microsoft user assistance for problems like this, but I haven't found a
solution. If anyone out there knows the answer please let us all know!

Hello, I had the same problem and found a
'office2003-KB951535-FullFile-ENU.exe' on the ms kb site. it prompted me to
refer to the 'c:\program files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\1033\setup.chm' help
file and found the 'Office Source Engine'
window service that was turned off on my system.

Once I turned it on, re-ran windows update, downloaded the patches, and they
were applied. prior to the OSE start, I had attempted the downloads 2 or 3
times before going to the source.
I hope this helps.
Regards

John,

Have you removed a hard drive since your original installation of Office?
One of the suggestions MS gave me was to try the Repair option for Office in
Add & Remove Programs, but that failed too, because Repair was looking for
installation files that, apparently, the Office installation CD put,
inexplicably, on my G: drive, rather than my C: drive with the program files.
Unfortunately, I have since removed my G: drive and Repair refuses to accept
when I tell it to look in my D: drive with my Office installation CD.

I have since resorted to uninstalling and reinstalling Office and all is now
working properly; however, at the end of that reinstallation, I was given the
option of removing new installation files that were again, inexplicably
placed, this time on my F: drive, which is an external hard drive that may
not always be connected, so I expect this issue to crop up for me again in
the future.

I'm guessing there is something in the Registry that might be altered to
make Update or Repair work properly, but I'm not knowledgeable enough to mess
with that.

I have tried all of these solution options as well, but to no avail.

If so many are having this issue, why can't Microsoft fix it!!!
