I have pro XP sp2, configured automatic updates to install automaticlly at
specfic time. Yet after 2 days NOTHING. Looked in windowsupdate.log file
found this message..Update is not allowed to download due to regulation.
What regulation ?

I logged off PC for updates to take place....do I need to be logged in for
microsoft update to work ?

Updated to Microsoft Update instead of windows updates to take care of
Office...etc.

Automatic updatess and BITS services are running.

Most likely it's a form of throttling due to overwhelming demand for the
updates. Advise you to install the Critical updates manually from the
links on the Security Bulletins. The links take you to the MS Download
Center, so you could just head over there and do a Search for the
Knowledge Base articles.

Critical Bulletins:

Vulnerability in DirectShow Could Allow Remote Code Execution (904706)
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../ms05-050.mspx

Vulnerabilities in MSDTC and COM+ Could Allow Remote Code Execution
(902400) (NOTE: A Proof of Concept is out on the net. DO THIS UPDATE !)

Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (896688)

Absent any errors from your Windowsupdate.log, I'll suggest that, like many
around the world, you're seeing extreme delays caused by excessive demand on
the servers. We saw similar behavior in August when six (6) patches were
released and now there are nine (9), two or 3 of them for all OSS, Win98
through Win2K03.

Be patient: If Automatic Updates doesn't bring 'em in by, say, 17 Oct-05
(Monday), post back.

Or you can try downloading/installing 'em via Windows/Microsoft Update page
(and for best results, try it during off-peak hours, e.g., 11:00 PM-7:00AM
PDT). Understand that by doing so, you're pushing all the Automatic Updates
users further back in the queue (which would explain, at least in part, why
you've not gotten them yet).
