I noticed that in other parts of this thread, you now list the error as
0x80248009?
Error when you try to use the Windows Update or Microsoft Update Web sites
to install updates: "0x80248009"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956700
Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, Windows XP & Vista
Could be a problem with corruption in either the Temporary Internet cache or
in the Datastore folder.
Suggestions:-
Clear out IE temporary internet cache, including cookies and offline files.
Clear out the Datstore folder:
See this link for further instructions:
http://update.microsoft.com/windowsu...=en&IsMu=False
NB - you will lose your history but that's not important.
If that hasn't helped, then one step further, rename the
Softwaredistribution folder:-
Renaming the SoftwareDistribution folder
Click Start, Choose Run.
In the Run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the Automatic Updates service.
Click Stop.
Stopping the service will take a moment.
Rename the "SoftwareDistribution" folder: a. Click Start, click Run, type
%systemroot%, and then click OK.
b. Right-click the SoftwareDistribution folder, and then click Rename.
c. Type SoftwareDistribution.old, and then press ENTER to rename this
folder.
Click Start. Choose Run.
In the Run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the Automatic Updates service.
Click Start.
Starting the service will take a moment.
Clear the Internet Explorer cache
Start Internet Explorer.
On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
Click the General tab.
In the Temporary Internet files section, click Delete Cookies.
Click OK in the Delete Cookies box.
In the Temporary Internet Files section, click Delete Files.
Select the Delete all offline content check box in the Delete Files dialog
box.
Click OK.
In the History section, click the Clear History button.
Click Yes.
Click OK.
