Microsoft upt. page freezes

(XP Home, cable connection) When I vist the Microsoft update page, it
freezes at the "checking for latest updating software" stage. If I then
click on the page, it says "not responding" on the title bar. Then the only
way to get out of it is to go to task manager and forcibly terminate
"ieexplore"
Any solutions?

Many thanks for you suggestion. I disabled two Skype add-ons and the
Windows messenger add-ons (all three in Internet Explorer) and now the
update page seems to be working consistently.

Nope, it does not. I read the rest of the thread and see where you've
disabled assorted add-ons and that resolved the freezing issue.
If you want to pinpoint which specific add-on, enable them one at a time
to find out which one is the culprit.

BTW, I discovered a Automatic Update issue in conjunction with NOD32.
The Version of NOD is 2.7.39
When I installed Version 3.0.556 the issue was resolved.
The Automatic Update service could not be Stopped and Restarted and this
error was in the WindowsUpdate.log :

2007-12-05 07:42:53:586 984 d28 Misc WARNING: WinHttp:
SendRequestToServerForFileInformation MakeRequest failed. error 0x80072efd

Stopping the IMON service from the Control Center also resolves the
issue in NOD 2.7.39

So if anyone sees this thread and has NOD 2.7.39 installed, you now know
what to do to resolve error 0x80072efd and/or the AU service does not
function properly when updating via Automatic Updates.

you are welcome Francis,

I learn so much from others here. I keep reading weekly on what problems
people are having so that in the event i have kinks happening with my
computer, i can have a heads up on what to do to try and fix it..If i find a
particular problem that most people are having, and info is given in a link
to help, I will save it to my favorites for future use. That has saved me and
my computer many times over..
