Hello
I have Vista Home Basic on the computer I am using, the problem is I do not
have the software or the product key. I was wondering if there is a way to
find the product key in the system or software? Please help if possible.

If it's an OEM computer (like dell or gateway) you don't use the actual
product key listed on the device.

Make a backup disc (or use the disc given by the OEM) and it will already
have the key integrated into the disc.

The only other thing I can think of would a keyfinder.

There's one called Magical Jellybean Keyfinder

Typing in Vista Keyfinder in google came up with a Digg article about this
software.

Here's the link to their site:
http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder.shtml

Note this is a legal program that doesn't generate keys, it merely tells you
what key you already have.

So I'm assuming the PC you bought was a "self-built" PC then?

you can check your own key from the control panel. go into the control
panel, click system and maintainance, then click system and it should be
down the bottom under the title windows activation.

That's the Product ID, not the Product Key.

The Product ID only tells you what version of Windows you're running and what type of license it has.

A very helpful little program below.
Look under Software>Operating System,
it will tell you your product key.
Also, under Software>Licenses,
it will show you the keys of other
programs installed.... like, Office.

Product ID and Product Key are two *different* things.
