I keep getting this error message in any condition even after I have just
turned on my HP G70-258US laptop; Running Vista Home Premium, SP1,
Pentium(R) DC CPU T4200 @2.00GHz, 4GB RAM, 64 bit OS. Additionally, it
doesn't seem to matter which program (IE, Word, games, Excel, etc) and I have
not sent any print jobs to my wireless printer. I'm using IE7 which came
preinstalled. I did upgrade to IE8 and hated it, so went back to IE7.

The error message pops up in an "Interactive services dialog detection" and
displays "A program can't display a message on your desktop". Program
Details: "(Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library, Program Path:
C:\Windows\System32\spoolsv.exe, Received today)

Basically you have a service, in your case the 'Printer Spooler' service,
that's trying to display a message on your desktop; something that is not
permitted in Vista due to the new security model.

That 'Interactive services dialog detection' message should give you the
option to view the message that is being attempted to display, by switching
to an alternative desktop, which would help in trouble-shooting.

But as to WHY your 'Printer Spooler' service has decided to show you a
message, I do not know. Perhaps you've installed some printer drivers for
your wireless printer, that have replaced the original 'spoolsv.exe', or
perhaps the file has been replaced in some other way (malware, virus etc)
(???)

System Restore back to before it began, or a virus / malware scan may help.

What is a UAC? When I select to view the message or close the box, it always
comes back and I can't figure out how to keep it closed. Seems like whenever
I open any other application, it freezes that up too.

Note: I don't have to select "Show me the message". Below these options is
"Show Program Details" and it shows the same info as "Show me the Message"
and I don't have to switch screens then switch back to get out. "Show
Program Details" is a drop down window.

This is my first Vista OS and I'm really trying to get over the learning
curve, but when there are always error messages, I'm beginning to lose my
patience. I was hoping by waiting a few years they would have worked out
these bugs.

Could this issue be caused because this is a 64bit system? Seems like I can
still run x86 applications. Is that the same as 32 bit? Is there a way to
make the default 32bit or x86? I don't think I need the features of 64bit,
it just came that way. This is personal home computer; the hardest
crunching I plan to do is edit videos and I'm just starting to learn how to
do that with Roxio Creator. ps: I don't know anything about 32 vs. 64.

I too had this problem with my 64-bit HP Pavilion DV7 laptop. I
occurred with the Lexmark X7675 printer and caused problems with m
computer booting properly. After attempts at correcting this proble
through Lexmark and a new printer driver, remote assistance printe
install and a couple attempts with HP Support, I think I finally fixe
it myself. When I booted the computer in safe mode, I used the "startu
repair" option. Additionally I checked with the manufacturer for a bio
update and installed it. I hope this will help someone else with thi
problem. The error message was "Interactive Services Dialogue" "Runtim
error, Microsoft Visual C++ runtime library"
"Program:C:\\windows\system 32\spoolsv.exe" "Application has requeste
the runtime to terminate in an unusual way"
