I have just installed the lastest updates and one of them, the installation
of 816093, Securtiy update for Microsoft Virtual Machine, keeps showing up
in my system tray as an available update. I have now installed it 5 times
and it is still showing.

Any ideas?

Daz,

Is the Microsoft Virtual Machine installed or, was the update offered
erroneously due to some bits or bytes residue ?

If the Sun JRE/J2SE is installed, then the MSJVM should be completely
removed from the system as by December 31, MS will no longer be
supporting it : http://www.microsoft.com/mscorp/java/

You can run the MSJVM Removal Tool 1.0a
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4158.html
or do it manually:
How do I uninstall Microsoft Virtual Machine?
http://www.java.com/en/download/help/uninstall_msvm.xml

Once the MSJVM is removed it can not be reinstalled.
