You went to the wrong NG. You want an Discussions in Windows 3.x, Windows for
Workgroups and DOS NG, not one who deals with Windows Update.

Do you mean 'install'?
Or are you actually attempting to download Windows 3.1 from someplace on the
Internet?

Then you have made a mistake in referring to it as "Windows 3.1".
Can you present the proper name it is referring to?
Is it possibly "Windows Installer 3.1"?

microsoft want to install update of windows installer 3.1 but when I try to
do down load it, my computer show it has not been down loaded. what makes
this happen, is it caused by another problem I have? because when I start my
computer .net framework\v20 say it has not been loaded

Download and SAVE Windows Installer 3.1 Redistributable (v2) here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

Scroll down to ' Files in This Download ' and click the Download button
next to WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe

When the download is completed close the browser and any other open
programs.
Now run WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe

If Windows Installer still fails to install properly, then navigate to
the WINDOWS directory [folder] using Windows Explorer [ Start > Programs
> Accessories > Windows Explorer ]

Locate the KB893803v2.log
Open it and post the contents of the log into your reply, please.

The log is from 2007/11/29 14:31:41.859 (local) and shows Automatic
Update attempting the installation.

Did you attempt to install it manually today because the log is not
showing that.
Plus, the log is showing that the system needs to be rebooted :
