Sunshine,

Give this a try. First, enable hidden files and folders :
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

Next, open the My Documents folder. Right click a blank area and choose
New Folder. Name it IEBak.

Using Windows Explorer, navigate to
Program Files\Internet Explorer\Uninstall Information

Move all of the file in that folder to IEBak. DO NOT DELETE THEM !

Now try to install IE 6. If it succesfully installs you can now delete
the entire IEBak folder. If it does not, move all of the files in IEBak
back to their original location

Please post back with your progress and the specific name of the update
you're attempting to install.
