I have problem when the tool is installed as it says successfully, it
immediately downloads the update again and again and again.
After some search I have attached the mvp.log as requested.
It appears from the log that the Malicious Software Removal Tool stopped
installing or hung up in September 2006. Please help with this most annoying
problem as it slows down my PC.

Does this happen with any other Updates?

Open Add/Remove Programs > Make sure Show Updates is checked > Scroll down >
What are the last four (4) "Security Update for Windows XP (KB123456)"
listed here and their installation dates?

Dear PA,
Firstly thank you for your response. The answer to your question is Yes.
Certain updates have failed (Media 11 player) but this does not reload all
the time.It reloads sometimes when I open Media player (reload) for example.
The last 4 updates were
KB920213 Installed on 17/11/2006
KB926239 installed on 7/12/2006
KB925398 installed on 15/12/2006
KB926255 installed on 15/12/2006
KB923694 installed on 15/12/2006

Regards

Assuming you're running WinXP SP2, you're missing at least one (1) critical
update; this suggests that something is interfering with Automatic Updates.
Try the following self-help references:

How to troubleshoot Windows Update, Microsoft Update, and Windows Server
Update Services installation issues:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=906602

1. See the "Need more help? Tell us what problem you are having" section of
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=ph;en-us;6527

2. You cannot install some updates or programs
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;822798

3a. Check Windowsupdate.log (%windir%\Windowsupdate.log) for errors
associated with the download/install.

How to read the Windowsupdate.log file:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=902093

3b. Compare errors to those listed here:
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/archive...date_codes.htm and/or go to
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com > click on Help and Support link in left
pane > Solve problems on your own.

If you get lost or this is beyond your abilities, at least try to post any
errors associated with the recent, failed installs (e.g., 0x80040111;
8024D00A).

NB: Most often such problems are caused by hijackware!

Dear PA,
Check and went through the items below. Yes you are right I have a hijacked
browers.
I am trying to get into my directory to install Hitjackthis and am
immediately thrown out of the the directory with the explore window closing
(if 5 explorer windows are open then these are alos closed)
I am busy reading up on how to install Hijackthis. Any advice or suggestions
etc would be most welcomed. By the way I ran the PC through Microsoft Live
online scanning services but no problems were identiied.

Checking for/Help with Hijackware
http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm
http://aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm
http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=5878

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post
your log to http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30,
http://castlecops.com/forum67.html,
http://forums.subratam.org/index.php?showforum=7, or other appropriate
forums for expert analysis, not here.**

[Your handler at the forum you've chosen can assist you in getting
HijackThis installed, Fred.]

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.
