What is "Microsoft Windows Publisher"?

Recently, when I have been attempting to run Windows update on one of our
Win2K machines I receive a message asking me to install "Windows Update"
published by "Microsoft Windows Publisher". Is this REALLY Microsoft?
The certificate looks legit. However, my spider scense was tingling. Has
anyone else seen this?

That's not very specific.. on the messages part and/or on your part.

You are trying to "run Windows Update" (visit
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ ?) on one of your Windows 2000 computers
and receive a message WHILE running windows update asking you to install
"Windows Update" published by "Microsoft Windows Publisher"? Well - if you
initiated the Windows Update process and this comes up as a aresult - it
sounds legit to me.
