Microsoft Word 97 and Microsoft Works Help

I installed Windows XP home edition on my computer. Now I can not find my
documents or use the above programs. I believe that these programs were
factory installed so I do not have the disks. What can I do to retrieve my
files and use these programs. I did look under control panel for my documents
in documents and settings but no luck.
