I tried to install Microsoft Word 97 on my new
Vista Home Premium laptop. It ended up
/user/<username>/AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/Word...
Actually, it failed to install.
It appears that it should be located
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Word

(q1) should I change user to admin?
(q2) is there a better suggested location?

Tnx,
Charles

Your doc files should be in the USER folder and possibly under
Compatibility Files
Office should install in the program files\MSOffice folder as usual. I'd
uninstall Office and then reinstall by running the install.ese As Admin.
Then in the WinWord.exe file, go to Properties and choose Compatibility
tab-XP Compatible mode. Hope that helps.

Yes, changing to an Admin account would benefit you, and, no, it shouldn't
be located there -- just have the path as C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office -- it will do the rest.

Also, you may want to take into account that Word 97 may not work under
Vista. Word 97 is almost 10 years old now. You may have to upgrade to Office
2003, or 2007 if you're willing to relearn it.

It works fine under Vista.

I have no problems running W97 on it. Outlook2000 on the other hand
definitely has issues which require some workarounds.

I found Word 97 would not work under Vista Home Premium. The program
appeared to work until you tried to print. Upon clicking on print the
program would shut down.

That old stuff won't work. It's for Windows 98 lol

Although that was your experience, it is not generally true that Word
97 doesn't work under Vista. Whatever caused your problem, it is not
the experience of others.
