Yeah, they're just protecting their intellectual property.

The above prove that MS holds disdain for its paying customers and,
unless they change their ways, will be their downfall.

I don't do BETAs but those who do say it's a great improvement. The
final is out in two weeks. I can wait :-)

Automatic Updates after a repair install has been broken for a while. You
have to use the Windows Update web site to get the latest Windows installer
and WU files. After this everything works fine.

I guess you didn't read the article and just had a MS Fanboy knee-jerk
reaction. Try reading the article before you reply. It has *not* been fixed.

Better yet, why don't you do a repair install and see for yourself.

You're right. I was too quick on the trigger. I went and looked at the bills
for the last couple of repair installs I did. I had to re-register the wu
dlls before updates would work. KB555615 needs to be updated with the
procedure to re-register the appropriate dlls. There is a kb article that
details this. I don't have time to find it right now. When the updates fail
there is a link to click on for help. The procedure to re-register the dlls
can be found there.

Just what an average computer user wants to do ... but, hey, it give
repair techs more work so it couldn't be all bad, right?

Alias, You Need To Try Out Windows Server 2008 RC0 (Available On
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008), It's A Whole Lot Better Than
Windows Vista RTM, Plus You Can Still Use Microsoft Office 2007 Enterprise
Trial Edition (Available at http://office.microsoft.com, Just Click On The
Updates Section For Microsoft Office System 2007 In the Downloads Section)
On It, Which Is Something That Can't Be Done On Ubuntu 7.04 or 7.10 Official
Beta, Just FYI.

I'm confuzzled - is this what the stealth updates are supposed to fix Kerry?
