Hello Decrypt,

The best way is for anybody different. You can either upgrade an existing
domain inplace to 2003 and then inplace to 2008, because 2000 directly to
2008 does not work.

Or you add an 2008 DC to the 2000 domain after upgrading the schema on the
2000 schema master, make it DNS/GC and if needed DHCP server. Then you move
the 5 FSMO roles, reconfigure the clients to use it as preferred DNS server
and demote the 2000 DC's.

Please describe mre detailed how many servers you have and what functions/roles
they have.

Best regards

Oke thanks for you're answer!
It's just 1 server that I would like to migrate.

It seems that an upgrade would be the simple way to solve it then.
But I am really afraid that the upgrade would go wrong.
It has to go perfectly and my trust in Microsoft Windows is not great.
Sorry for that

Ronald

Hello Decrypt,

If you have only one domain controller and no new hardware you can not directly
upgrade to 2008. You have to choose the option over 2003. If you have a new
server for the 2008 then choose the way with adding it to the domain. Basically
the upgrade is an easy way. And before starting any kind of an upgrade make
A GOOD TESTED BACKUP FROM YOUR SERVER/DATA, so that you can go back if something
goes wrong.

Best regards
