Hello,

I have been given a task of migratin IIS/NLB from Windows 2000 Adv Srvs to
Windows 2003 Srvs. My current setup is,

a) 2 boxes with Windows 2000 Advanced Servers running IIS/NLB.
b) Each server setup with IIS/NLB with single adapter in unicast mode.
c) Only allowed ports are 80 and 443.
d) Rest of the settings are as per NLB.
e) All IIS/NLB servers are member servers to a Windows 2003 Active Directory
domain.

Here is what I intend to do.
a) Backup the configuration on the boxes. ie. ip settings, routing table,
nlb settings, nlb registry, host files, web server config etc.
b) Fresh Install of Windows 2003 on the same boxes (no hardware upgrade).
c) Apply the config back onto new Windows 2003 setup and setup IIS/NLB.

My doubts are
a) Will this work? What tools can I use to backup the existing config?
Will all my settings be restored eg ip address, routes, nlb settings, etc.
b) Is there an easier way to do this?
c) I dont want to go through the route of upgrading to Windows 2003. I
rather prefer to do a fresh install. Is that ok?
d) Has anyone done this before and has it worked?
e) Do I need to be aware of any other details before doing this migration?
f) NLB should be setup with native mode. I am not sure what this means
though.

Thanks in advance.

If it's just IIS you're worried about migrating, I would install a fresh
copy of Windows 2003 and use the IIS Migration tool. Read the following for

I am not too concerned about IIS as the pages are only html. All I want is
to have the service running while the migration is done. Also is there any
difference using Windows 2003 NLB to Windows 2000 NLB? Can someone provide
me an example if you can find one something similar.

Last time I did it was in 2004 for a major player on the market with three
machines going from 2000 to 2003. From what I remember, they were similar.
