Migrating programs to Vista

I am going from a Windows 2000 laptop to one running Vista. I have an
external 500 GB external drive. Because of available space I have installed
many programs to the external drive. When I make to switch I know my
programs will still be on the external drive but I will probably lose any
registry adjustments or whatever on the old laptop. Will I have to
completely uninstall the programs from the external drive & then reinstall
to get the new computer "on the same page" as the external drive programs??
Is there an easier way?

Thanks... Bob

Hi,

You are correct in that the programs won't be migrated. You don't need to
remove them from their existing location, just reinstall them under the new
OS to the same location.

You will have to re-install all of your programs on the new computer.
And keep in mind that some of them may not be compatible, or may need to be
upgraded.
